Outside Burn Permits
Permits are required year-round in Woodstock for all outside burns every time. Please call 802-457-2337 for a permit prior to burning.
A Burn permit is required for every day you burn and can only be requested on the morning of the planned burn. Permits are only good for daylight hours.
- This permit is valid only for the location and time period specified on the permit.
- This permit does not relieve the permit holder of any liability for the fire or for any damage resulting from it.
- The person responsible for the fire must have adequate personnel and appropriate tools on site at all times to control the fire.
- Only natural, untreated wood materials may be burned under this permit and must be free of paint, stain, or other coatings. All other materials require both an Air Pollution Control Permit and this permit. Air Pollution permits must be obtained from the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).
- The fire must be continuously attended and shall not be left unattended until it is completely extinguished.
- Restricted or prohibited materials may not be used to ignite natural wood materials.
- Any special conditions listed on this permit are considered part of the required conditions to burn.
- Failure to comply with any condition of this permit will result in the permit being immediately void, and continued burning will be considered illegal.
- Violation of these permit conditions may result in issuance of a Vermont Fire Prevention Ticket, which may lead to court action and fines for each day the violation continues.
- If you do not understand these requirements or have questions, contact your local Forest Fire Warden prior to burning. This permit may be revoked at any time for cause.
Fire Alarm System Registration
All residential and commercial fire alarm systems are required to be registered yearly. Any building with a fire alarm system requires a Knox box. Knox boxes can be purchased at https://www.knoxbox.com.
Photovoltaic Roof Mounted Permit
A permit from the Town of Woodstock is required for a roof-mounted system for single family owner occupied buildings, All other buildings require a VT State Fire Marshal permit.
Town/ Village Liquor License Ordinance
All establishments require a fire safety inspection prior to approval of your new and/or yearly license renewal. This inspection should take place in January unless you're a new permit holder. Contact the fire department to schedule this at 802-457-7517.
